A Story From Real Life.

It depends on your taste in books. I do not read a lot of fiction, but I appreciate a good turn of phrase. I bought the book because I liked Carrie Fisher in Star Wars. As with all fiction writers I think there is a good bit of her own life experience there. It is an easy read. Anyone who likes good light writing with a sense of humor about life's tribulations is likely to enjoy this book. I really think that there is considerably more depth to Carrie Fisher than is viewable in her well done characterization of Princess Leia.

I have been waiting and debating whether I wanted to read this, at first I was taken aback by the way Fisher uses interesting ways of describing the story. But now I absolutely love it, her way of writing makes me feel like I'm having a conversation with a person rather then reading. I love the two point of views. A great read!

This text provides a comprehensive look at embedded microcontrollers—specialized devices used for a variety of applications and which include a memory, a microprocessor, and an I/O interface. Embedded Microcontrollers is one of the first books based on the Motorola MC68HC12. It is for use in any microcontroller course covering embedded systems, or for anyone who wants to design small to medium-sized embedded systems.

From a wealth of practical experience, the author has prepared a work that fills a significant void, both for learning the new MC68HC12 and for learning the fundamentals of embedded real-time applications. For the novice or the experienced, this text provides essential, up-to-date information as well as practical tips—all in a format and style that are engaging and easily understood.

Preface

This book is intended for anyone who wants to design small- to medium-sized embedded systems. It was written primarily for electronics engineering technology students, but should also be appropriate for most engineering students and practicing engineers. It is currently being used for two one-quarter courses in electronics engineering technology. The first is a required junior-level course on microprocessor-based applications, and the second is a senior elective course on embedded systems. The first course covers assembly language only, and the second course uses C.

Prerequisites for this book include a background in electronic circuits, basic digital logic, and general C programming. The C programming course is required only for Parts 4 and 5. A background in C and/or C++ is required because this book does not cover C language programming basics. It only addresses the concepts and techniques required for using C in a microcontroller-based embedded system.

SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE USED IN THE BOOK

When writing a book on embedded systems, it is difficult to maintain the balance between being too specific to one hardware/software set and too general to be practical. I have tried to keep this balance by focusing on the concepts, processes, conventions, and techniques used in design and debugging.

The book focuses on the M68HC12 microcontroller from Motorola, but has also been successfully used in courses that use the M68HC 11 family. It is intended to supplement, not replace, vendor documentation. I expect every student to have the complete vendor documentation for both the MCU and the development board he or she is using. For example, for the M68HC12 MCU the student should have the CPU12 Reference Manual and the Technical Specifications for the specific part. If the M68HC 11 is used, the famous "pink books" are a requirement.

The development hardware used throughout the text is the Motorola 68HC912B32 EVB. In the first part of the text, only a single board is required, and all code is loaded into RAM. In the second half of the book, the background debug system is used, and the code is loaded into the target Flash ROM. This requires either two EVBs or one EVB as a target and a 68HC12 BDM pod such as the Noral 68HC 12 BDM debugger. The concepts regarding the debug process and testing should apply to most modern development systems.

The development software used throughout is the Introl-CODE development system. Except for the sections that specifically address development using the Introl-CODE system, the C code is all ANSI-C, and therefore it would be reasonable to use another compiler.

The real-time kernel covered in this text is MicroC/OS-II. It is available in source form and is widely used. Many of the concepts apply to other kernels, especially the applications for typical kernel services.

CHAPTER DESCRIPTIONS

The book is divided into five parts. The first half of the book emphasizes assembly code and the second half focuses on C. Hardware is covered throughout the text, especially in Part 3. Because of the use of pseudo-C from Chapter 6 on, it is reasonable to cover that material with an emphasis on C instead of assembly.

Part 1 Introduction. This part introduces the reader to the background and perspective required in learning about embedded systems.

Part 2 Assembly Language Programming. This part introduces programming in assembly language and covers the CPU 12 programming model and program design. Students should be able to build a prewritten program after completing Chapter 3, and write complete programs that are executed by the D-Bug 12 monitor in RAM after completing Chapter 6. Chapter 7 covers some basic applications that are appropriate for assembly code.

Part 3 Microcontroller Hardware and I/O. Real-time concepts and 1/O hardware are introduced, including interrupts and basic multitasking. All of the 68HC912B321/O resources are covered with the exception of the BDLC. MCU configuration for stand-alone systems along with bus expansion are covered in Chapters 10 and 11.

Part 4 Programming Microcontrollers in C. Concepts in C for programming real-time embedded systems are covered. Emphasis is placed on memory usage and program efficiency appropriate for small MCUs.

Part 5 Real-Time Multitasking Kernels. In this part basic multitasking design is covered along with using MicroC/OS-II, an off-the-shelf kernel.

This book is an good introduction to a broad range of topics and as with most books on embedded systems programming the examples are oriented to a particular CPU - frustrating if it's not the one youre using. Note: 'five star' reviewer Jean J. Labrosse WROTE the UC/OSII operating system featured in this overly expensive book. Try instead "The Art Of Designing Embedded Systems" by Ganssle...

Difficult for a beginner

I used this book for a beginner 68HC12 class at my college and I thought it was extremely hard to understand. Most of the examples involve C programming and at the time I hadn't taken a course on C so I didn't know what it was talking about. I think motorola has a lot of useful books if you want to program using assembly language. They have a small black book that goes over all the instructions and then also another book that goes over all the registers. I also beleive this book is wickedly expensive.

This book covers both software and hardware aspects and Mr. Morton does an excellent job in presenting the material with ample illustrations, tables, timing diagrams, schematics and lots of practical code examples. Such a fun escape book

Maddie is new in town and quickly befriends her neighbors, joins the drama club, and worms her way into the school and community. Theater is her life and her only true love (Gene Kelly) is dead. She's a very dramatic, yet likable girl. I love her easy calm in handling her life changes, even the surprises that upset her. I love her new friends and they way they're all so different, yet so similar. They really mesh well together. Jesse is her best friend's older brother and he's talented, good-looking, and full of charm. What's not to like?

I'm a little older than these characters (okay...a lot older...) and I'm still learning some of the lessons they learned. Even with good intentions, it's really hard not to judge sometimes. Understanding others is so much better than placing them in a box. Maddie learns the hard way that what she thinks Jesse's passion should be isn't necessarily what his passion in life is. Sometimes people have to learn things the hard way and it can be painful to go through and almost more painful to read about.

There's a nice and realistic feel to the relationships throughout this story and the coming-of-age moments are a real process that progresses naturally. I love that these characters aren't perfect. This book took me back to the good times in my past and I enjoyed reliving those moments again. This is such a fun series that can be read in any order, as they have nothing to do with each other. I recommend it to those readers who enjoy good, clean, YA lit with some "if only" dreams thrown in.

Content: mild, clean romance (kissing); 1-2 cuss words. Clean!

Who can refuse to smile at her obsession with Gene Kelly and his wonderful dance movies?

I liked this book, despite its unevenness. The main character seems very self-centered, even though she despises a fellow student and thespian for the same vice. The heroine also likes to try to reform people, or coerce them to be what she thinks they should be, instead of what they themselves want.

I found that vastly irritating, but the author has a way with words and knows her craft. The book is humorous and who can refuse to smile at her obsession with Gene Kelly and his wonderful dance movies? I don't think I'd read a sequel, but this was worth a read because of its wry and bouncy tone.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Gah, I just love cute, swoonworthy contemporary YA. I love characters with substance and friendships and genuinely nice love interests. And let me tell you - Kristin Rae writes great love interests. Darren from Wish You Were Italian is so adorable, and I loved that Jesse was just as fleshed-out as Maddie. I also enjoyed that Maddie wasn't as snobby as I expected - Angela and Tiffany, her first two friends, aren't drama geeks; in addition, they don't end up being her only two friends. Maddie befriends one of the nice girls in the drama program, Sarah. I appreciated that Ms. Rae didn't only give Maddie two friends AND that it wasn't like Maddie, as the new girl, joined the friend group. Instead, she made her own. Still on the subject of Maddie, one of the things that kept me from completely loving What You Always Wanted and giving it 5 stars was that I wanted to see a little more character growth for her. She's a bit opinionated and she was rude to her parents and I wanted to see her grow and become more mature. However, she acted like a teenager in a lot of ways, which I did appreciate since so many YA protagonists seem way older than they actually are.
I liked how not everything went the way Maddie wanted it to, and she had to work for things. I would've liked to see the build-up to and her audition for the musical, though.
As for the romance, I appreciated that the problems weren't based on communication issues, as so many YA romances are. It was such a relief that there was no love triangle. And Jesse was definitely swoonworthy, y'all. He's an athlete and he dances and he's interested in Maddie. He makes an effort with her and even though he doesn't like old movies, he likes that she does and she's so passionate about her interests.
Language was mild - if there was any because I don't remember much. Kissing and making out were as far as it went.

The Verdict: So, so, so cute and sweet. If contemporary romance is your thing, then I'd be surprised if you didn't like What You Always Wanted.

Best phisics-math reference of formulas

- Math: Differential Equations, Vector algebra, Integration tables, Series, Limits, Trig, Complex variables and analysis, polynomials (all kinds), some probability and statistics, basic geometry (perimeter, area and volume)
- Dynamics and mechanics (including fluids)
- Quantum physics
- Thermodynamics
- Solid state physics (With periodic table)
- Electromagnetism
- Optics
- Astrophysics
These are just formulas, there are no concepts descriptions or solved problems, yet is the most handy reference of college level math and physics for science, CS, math, phys majors

Useful

It might be an indication of superficiality to judge the book by its cover, but in this isolated case, the cover does truly indicate what lies ahead. In terms of aesthetic, it is really beautiful.
The book is true to its declared purpose in that it serves faithfully to provide esoteric formulas and equations of interest to physicists and applied mathematicians; that and that only. The intended audience is not the virgin tyros to whom the equations appear for the first time, but those seasoned virtuosos to whom the equations are as quotidian as a slice of bread in the morning but would rather commit the engravement to paper than to memory. In some cases knowledge of convention with regard to the uses of symbols is tacitly assumed, in most cases knowledge of proper contexts with regard to the applications of equations is likewise assumed.
I got the hardcover version of the book free upon joining a book club sometime three years ago, therefore I am not able to perform the cost-benefit analysis.

Saves me at least once a week

This book is one of the best, and I mean best, purchases I have ever made. It provides clear, consistent tables of physical values and equations, which can be a godsend in a land of inconsistent,confusing, and sometimes odd notation. Also useful is its Rosetta Stone-esque conversion table, which shows the values of myriad measures (including the US and UK values of the firkin, should one ever need to know,) into nice, clean SI units. The comprehensive index and well-organized sections make finding the proper equation easy as well.
This book has been useful in practically all of my physics coursework so far, and I anticipate it remaining a useful reference beyond my undergraduate years.

About the Author
Ralph Fischer ist Inhaber und Cheftrainer der M.A.A.F. Schwenningen und betreibt seit über 35 Jahren verschiedene Kampfsport und Kampfkunstsysteme. Er begann seine Kampfsport/Kampfkunst-Ausbildung im Alter von 10 Jahren mit dem westlichen Ringen. Hier wurde er bereits nach 2 Jahren Training in die zweite Bundesliga vom AB-Aichhalden verpflichtet und unter Vertrag genommen. Unter anderem erlernte er auch 3,5 Jahre lang das Wing Tsun Kung Fu bis in die Oberstufe. Aber auch mit Boxen, Ju.Jutsu, Judo und Karate hat er sich eine Zeit lang beschäftigt, bis er den Weg zum Jeet Kune Do und Inosanto Kali fand. Er ist Diplom Fachsport-Pädagoge besitzt mehrere Instruktor- und Prüferlizenzen für Jeet Kune Do, Inosanto-Kali, Brazilian Ji-Jitsu, Kickboxen und MMA und ist berechtigt selbst Lehrer in Kickboxen und MMA auszubilden. Seit 2013 vertritt er noch die Ämter als Sportdirektor und Bundestrainer für MMA und Grappling. In seiner Wettkampflaufbahn, wo er über 350 Kämpfe im Ringen und Kickboxen bestritt, konnte er mehrere nationale und Internationale Titel erkämpfen. Auch an drei Weltrekorden hat er erfolgreich teilgenommen. Im Jahr 2009 wurde er von einem Internationalen Kampfkunst Magazin zum Instruktor of the Year gewählt und in einem Internationalen Buch mit einer Action Sammelkarte abgelichtet und in die Hall of Fame aufgenommen. 2010 wurde er dann erneut für seine 30 Jährige Arbeit als Wettkämpfer und Trainer mit der Hall of Fame Aufnahme ausgezeichnet. Im Jahr 2013 wurde er von Europas bekanntester Ruhmenshalle für verdiente Kampfsportler, der Munich Hall of Honour als Botschafter der Kampfkünste zum Instructor of the Year gewählt und zusammen mit Cynthia „Lady Dragon" Rothrock ausgezeichnet. Im April 2014 wurde seine überaus erfolgreiche Academy ebenfalls für Ihre Leistungen unter anderem WM, EM, und DM Titel im Amateur und Profibereich von der Munich Hall of Fame geehrt und ausgezeichnet. About the Author

H. Kent Baker is a University Professor of Finance in the Kogod School of Business at American University. Professor Baker has authored or edited 24 books and has published more than 150 refereed articles in such journals as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, Financial Analysts Journal, and Journal of Portfolio Management. He has consulting and training experience with more than 100 organizations.

Greg Filbeck is a Samuel P. Black III Professor of Finance and Risk Management at Penn State Erie, the Behrend College and serves as Associate Director and Department Chair of Finance & Economics for the Black School of Business. Professor Filbeck has authored or edited seven books and published more than 75 refereed academic journal articles appearing in such journals as the Financial Analysts Journal, Financial Review, and Journal of Business, Finance, and Accounting.

Halil Kiymaz is Bank of America Professor of Finance in the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. Professor Kiymaz has published more than 70 articles in scholarly and practitioner journals and co-edited three books. His research has appeared in such journals as the Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Review, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Applied Finance, Journal of Economics and Finance, and Review of Financial Economics. Professor Kiymaz also serves on the editorial board of four journals and is the area editor of the International Journal of Emerging Markets. He has consulting and training experience with various organizations.
